Summer is upon us with its beautiful colors, fresh air, and bright sunshine.\u00a0 Because there is more sunlight, there is more time to head outdoors and work up a sweat.\u00a0 This is the perfect recipe for a cool treat!\u00a0 Below are three easy treats for you and your preschooler to make and enjoy together.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Ice cream in a bag only requires five ingredients- half and half, salt, ice, vanilla, and sugar.\u00a0 You will also need 2 Ziploc style bags (make sure they are good quality bags so that the salt does not get into the inner bag).\u00a0 Mix one cup of half and half, 1 \u00bd teaspoons of vanilla extract, and one tablespoon of sugar in a small bag.\u00a0 Make sure it is sealed well and all excess air is removed.\u00a0 Fill the large bag about halfway with ice.\u00a0 Add \u00bc cup salt.\u00a0 Place the small bag inside the larger bag and fill the larger bag with ice.\u00a0 Close the large bag.\u00a0 Wearing gloves, shake the bags for six minutes.\u00a0 Take out the small bag and rinse the outside completely, especially near the seal.\u00a0 Mix it up, add toppings if you would like, and enjoy!<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. To make simple fruity popsicles, you will need popsicle molds, popsicle sticks (if the molds do not already have some), water flavoring packets, bottled water, and fruit.\u00a0 Add the water flavoring packet to a bottle of water and shake.\u00a0 Put your frozen fruit into the popsicle molds.\u00a0 Pour the flavored water over it until full. Do not forget to add popsicle sticks if necessary.\u00a0 Next, leave them in the freezer until solid.\u00a0 When you are ready to eat them, rest the mold in some warm water in the sink for a minute or two before removing them. Yum!<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. For a fresh and easy treat, make fruit kebabs.\u00a0 Gather a variety of your favorite fresh summer fruits and berries.\u00a0 Slice them up or cut into bite sized chunks.\u00a0 Help your preschooler carefully build their own colorful skewer of fresh, cold fruit.\u00a0 Find a comfortable place to sit and devour your tasty creations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
