Teaching your child about Daylight Saving Time is a great way to talk to your preschooler about time and other parts of the world. Here are some interactive ways to make this lesson fun and informative!<\/span><\/p>\n

Have a Little History Lesson<\/span><\/h3>\n

Most likely, the concept of Daylight Saving Time is a new one to your child, so take the opportunity to have a little history lesson right at home. Gather round and tell your children about how Daylight Saving Time originated when the US established different time zones. Specific start and end dates were established with the Uniform Time Act in 1966.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grab a Map<\/span><\/h3>\n

Have fun with maps and showing your little ones different places in the world when telling them about Daylight Saving Time. You can get printouts of maps and have your kiddos color them in, or put stickers on different places they want to go and then try to determine what time zone each place is in.<\/span><\/p>\n

Make it a Craft<\/span><\/h3>\n

Paper plate clocks are a fun interactive way to get your preschoolers learning about time with their hands. You\u2019ll need: paper plates, pipe cleaners, and brads. Poke a hole in the middle of the plate and pull the pipe cleaners through to act as hands of a clock. Fasten the pipe cleaners with the brads and let your children decorate their clocks\u2014just make sure they have all 12 hours!<\/span><\/p>\n

Teaching your preschooler about Daylight Saving Time<\/span><\/a> is a sure way to get them thinking about time, other parts of the world, and how everyone is connected. If your child is excited about history and fun facts, tell them more details about the subject such as the fact that Daylight Saving Time is not enforced by law\u2014states can choose to participate or to stay on standard time all year round.<\/span><\/p>\n
