In our technology-driven world, it feels virtually impossible to separate children from gadgets and the internet. Technology is a great way to learn on an interactive level for your preschooler, and the key to making sure your little one has a well-rounded experience is through balance and limitations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Set limits<\/b><\/h3>\n

Set times where technology is not allowed\u2014like after dinner, all the devices turn off. If your child likes to watch television, put a limit on how many episodes of a show they are allowed to watch a day. Many televisions have settings where you can limit how many minutes are played before it automatically turns off.<\/span><\/p>\n

Make time for family<\/b><\/h3>\n

Make this a family event, if possible, where all members have to put their phones or tablets away. Use this time to instead spend time together. One of the most important things you can do after setting limitations to your child\u2019s technology use is to spend the time they\u2019re not using the tablet or watching TV to spend time doing something just as fun. Outdoor activities are especially important to offset the sedentary behavior that comes with technology use. Take advantage of the technology-free time to do things that are not possible with a tablet or TV on. Play a game, read a book, or bake something in the kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Encouraging a variety of fun and tactile activities when putting restrictions on technology is the best way to show your child that there are many great ways to have fun and spend time outside of technology.<\/span><\/p>\n
