Before the first day arrives, you may want to spend some time refreshing your little learner on general rules and guidelines to follow while at school. After several months of summer fun, a review on having good manners, respecting other classmates, and listening to the teacher could go a long way. Here are a few ways to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.parents.com\/kids\/discipline\/setting-limits\/getting-kids-to-follow-the-rules\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">teach your preschooler to follow the rules<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why follow rules?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Start off by explaining to your child why rules matter. Tell him that rules are put in place to ensure that everyone is safe and kind to one another. Calling other children mean names, hitting others, or disrespecting the teacher are all obvious no-no\u2019s. In order to be safe and happy at school, your child should stay with the class at all times, listen to the teacher and other staff members, and be friendly to other students. Once your child realizes that rules are put in place with good intentions, he will be more likely to follow them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Set an example<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Children mirror their parents\u2019 actions each and every day, whether parents realize it or not. This is why it\u2019s so important to set a positive example for your preschooler. Your little one is watching, so remember to always display good manners and not to raise your voice when you\u2019re in the middle of a disagreement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Prioritize communication<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When it comes to temper tantrums, zero tolerance is your best bet. If your child whines, screams, or cries when he\u2019s upset or isn\u2019t getting his way, simply tell him you cannot understand him. If he can calm down and tell you what he is upset about, you can help him. Once he understands this, he\u2019ll put the tantrum on pause, take a deep breath, and explain his frustration. Another approach would be to designate a special area for your child to go to when he is throwing a fit. A small bathroom or place out of the way is a good choice. Explain to him that every time he begins to throw a fit, you will simply take him to his \u201cfussing spot\u201d and leave him until he calms himself down. When he decides to stop he may then rejoin the family all on his own. Throwing a fit is a lot less fun when there is no audience to watch you!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your children will make mistakes as they grow up &#8211; it\u2019s simply inevitable. However, if you strive to provide a safe and comforting place to talk, they will continue to seek your advice and confide in you.
