It\u2019s totally understandable\u2014who would want to be left alone with strangers in an unfamiliar place? This is why it is important to help your child become familiar with their preschool.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Talk about it often. Talk about how your schedule is going to work, and how much fun they are going to have, and how much they are going to learn! Do little things like driving past the preschool and saying, \u201cLook, that\u2019s your school! Aren\u2019t you so excited?\u201d Your enthusiasm will spill over and soon they\u2019ll be excited too!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Involve them in the planning and purchasing for the new year. Let them pick out their backpack and lunch box, and maybe even invest in some special school clothes. You could even involve them with their lunch packing and let them pick a few snacks to take along.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For the first few weeks, it could be helpful to send a favorite blanket along with them for comfort. You may find that after a few weeks, they won\u2019t need this anymore, and that\u2019s a sign that they\u2019re adjusting well!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Encourage them to make friends with the other kids. This can make the days so much more enjoyable if they have a little friend they can play with. You might even want to arrange some play dates with friends from the preschool during the beginning of the year so they can develop their friendship and have a head start on the coming school year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remember to be patient during this transition, and be prepared to spend a little extra time with your child as they learn to love their new school. Be enthusiastic about this change, always interested in hearing what they have to say about their day.
