School\u2019s out, and it\u2019s finally time to take that summer family vacation you\u2019ve been excited about ever since the frozen winter started to thaw! Traveling can be stressful enough, but adding preschoolers to the planning can heighten parents\u2019 stress levels! Whether you\u2019re taking a road trip via car or flying on a plane with little ones for the very first time, we\u2019ve got some tips for you!<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t overpack. <\/span><\/h4>\n

Traveling with extra luggage and small people with short legs and shorter attention spans is difficult enough. Make a packing list and assess items you can buy at your destination (example: if your preschooler isn\u2019t potty trained yet, buy diapers or pull-ups when you arrive).<\/span><\/p>\n

Opt for a home rental instead of a hotel. <\/span><\/h4>\n

Hotels are part of the fun sometimes, especially for kids! However, choosing a home rental via AirBNB or other rental apps will allow you to unpack and truly create a sense of home away from home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Low cost often means more work. <\/span><\/h4>\n

Cheaper prices for hotels and airfare look great on paper, but you may have difficult flight connections or fewer time options that work with your child\u2019s schedule and stimulation limits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Activity bags. <\/span><\/h4>\n

Before you go out of town, head to a dollar store and stock up on stickers, colored pencils, paper, activity books, color-safe markers and put everything in a bag to take with you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plan, but don\u2019t over plan. <\/span><\/h4>\n

If you need itineraries and preparation for any moment, make a list of potential disasters or curveballs before you even pack, and assess how you might handle these situations. However —<\/span><\/p>\n

Have fun! There will be meltdowns and unexpected curveballs thrown your way. Plan as much as you can, but ultimately it\u2019s the family summer experience that matters most!<\/span><\/p>\n
