The season has turned, and we find ourselves pulled inside with our families. As we look to November and Thanksgiving, it\u2019s a bit of a natural inclination to remember all the things for which you are grateful! Spend the extra time together with your preschoolers teaching them gratitude and practicing thankfulness. Here are a few ways to instill thankfulness in your preschoolers and help them identify the positive things they are thankful for:<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t just say, \u201cthank you;\u201d be specific!<\/h2>\n

When you share your thankfulness with someone, be sure to tell them what you are thankful for! \u201cThank you for opening the door. \u201cThank you for passing the salt.\u201d Or, \u201cthank you for your kind words to your sister!\u201d Your children will hear your formula for communicating gratitude and will model their thankfulness after your own!<\/p>\n

Share as a family.<\/h2>\n

Talk about the basic things you are grateful for\u2014your home, your food, your clothing and toys. Help children recognize that even these everyday things are important blessings in your life. It\u2019s easy to make this a habit at dinner as a family or at bed time.<\/p>\n

Write thank you notes.<\/h2>\n

As your preschooler learns to write, help them to write thank you notes for gifts and kindnesses. Write the note for your child and allow him to sign his name. You could even help your preschooler design their own set of colorful stationery to write their thank you notes!<\/p>\n

Craft paper table cloth.<\/h2>\n

Cover your Thanksgiving table in craft paper and place crayons or markers at each spot. Encourage your friends, family, and children to draw pictures of the things they are thankful for! If your preschoolers are still learning to write, it may be easier for them to draw pictures. At your meal, ask everyone to share about something they drew!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important for your child to practice gratitude all year long, so continue these habits as a family throughout the year.<\/p>\n
