Tips for Traveling with Preschool Children

Tips for Traveling with Preschool Children at Kids 'R' Kids Landstar, preschool, daycare, childcare

Everyone loves a great vacation, but a long travel day can feel just like work. Whether your trip will take just a couple hours or an entire day, you can bet your preschooler will be full of questions (“Are we there yet?”). Stay prepared with these travel tips, and have a great summer!

Help your preschool discover your destination!

Get your little one extra excited by looking at pictures, watching videos, and reading books about your destination. Gaining a little bit of familiarity (and having something to look forward to) before you hit the road will serve you and your kiddos well as you travel.

Reward your learner.

Consider packing surprise treats or small rewards for when your child displays great behavior. Sitting in a car for hours at a time can leave anyone feeling antsy, so if your tot has a positive attitude, reward them and encourage them to keep it up.

Create activities.

The key to a long travel day is having entertaining activities on hand. Pack coloring pages, small toys, and exciting books to read for your trip. You can even download episodes of your child’s favorite TV shows onto a tablet ahead of time, keeping your little one captivated for hours.

Remember, multiple sweets paired with a long car ride can lead to one antsy preschooler. So, try to avoid excess sugar and opt for protein packed granola bars or a fresh fruit cup instead. Happy trails!
