A new year of preschool is quickly approaching! There are great benefits of taking the opportunity to befriend your preschooler\u2019s teacher. Below is a quick run-down of benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. You can find out the best form of communication (for both you and the teacher). If an issue arises, do you prefer a phone call, email, or an in-person visit? <\/span>Reading Rockets<\/span><\/a> mentions the importance of \u201cgood two-way communication\u201d to help your child succeed.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. You can form a partnership to help further your child\u2019s success in preschool. For example, you can find out the teacher\u2019s strategies for dealing with problems (either academic or behavioral, etc) and then use consistent vocabulary at home with your child. This could help bring about a consistent game plan.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. You can have the opportunity to openly share any concerns you have before the school year starts. It is great if you can take the opportunity to share your child\u2019s strengths and weaknesses to help figure out any necessary game plans for the academic year. <\/span><\/li>\n
  4. You can find out a typical day of preschool to help minimize any of your child\u2019s anxieties going into the new year. This can also help you better prepare for what is expected of your child (and you) during the school year. Knowledge is power, and this goes beyond just academics.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. You can learn each other\u2019s expectations. Some may be able to be met easily, while others may not be possible at all during the year. It is wise for both parties to get the opportunity to more fully understand one another and if all the expectations are possible to be met.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Whether it is best to call it teamwork or a partnership, going into it together (with your child\u2019s teacher) is the most ideal way to help meet the academic, behavioral, and emotional needs of your child for this coming school year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
