Winter is here! It’s time for cuddling up by the fireplace\u2026 Or cuddling up by the yule log video playing on your TV, if a fireplace isn\u2019t an option. Either way, it\u2019s a time when a lot of outdoor activities come to a halt and await the warmer weather that spring brings. Here are a few ideas to keep you and your preschooler occupied and learning in the meantime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Create a Winter Sensory Bin<\/span><\/h4>\n

A sensory bin is an easy activity that engages its participants\u2019 senses while also being super fun! You can easily make one by filling an empty container (like a plastic storage bin) with scented items like fake snow, pine cones, twigs, scented candles, pom-poms and more! Not only will it keep your little one occupied for hours but it\u2019s also great for toddlers who are just starting to learn words for things like shapes and colors. Just make sure to put down a large tarp or blanket first to make cleanup easier!<\/span><\/p>\n

Go On A Nature Walk<\/span><\/h4>\n

Get out into nature during the colder months by taking your preschooler on a walk around your neighborhood or local park. This is especially great if there\u2019s been recent snowfall; help them observe changes in nature like footprints left in the snow from animals, or bright berries sticking out against the white background of blanketing snowfall. These observations will hone their curiosity, teach them observation skills, and foster an ever-growing love for nature!<\/span><\/p>\n

It may seem like the cold months of winter limit activities for parents and preschoolers, but there are still plenty of ways to stay busy and engaged. From soothing sensory bins to nature walks around your neighborhood, there are enjoyable and educational activities that are sure to keep your little one entertained. So don’t forget – this winter is the perfect opportunity to get creative, get outside (sort of), and have fun learning together!<\/span><\/p>\n
