Is there an easier way?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here are seven tips to help speak to your preschooler in a way that makes them want to listen.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whenever possible, go down to your preschooler\u2019s eye level. This helps break down any intimidation for important conversations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you can be at eye level or not, make eye contact with your child. This helps your child know that you are willing to pay attention to them while also talking through something important.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep your voice calm and your volume low, especially if you are upset and need to communicate corrective behavior to your preschooler in some way.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep empathy upfront in your communication. Emphasize to your child that any feelings your child is experiencing are okay. Expressing empathy also shows that you are your child\u2019s teammate to work through any problems.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help your child label their specific feelings to help open up conversation. You can specifically tell your child that you are more than happy to listen to how they feel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emphasize and model calming techniques before bringing up important topics with your preschooler. For example, if you are upset with your child, model (without your child even knowing you are trying to model the specific technique) that you need to breathe before saying anything you regret.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember to smile and guard any negative facial expressions when communicating with your child. Even if they are accidental negative expressions, try to guard how your facial expressions come across during an important conversation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Without a doubt, your preschooler recognizes and thrives on your unconditional love.
