It\u2019s National Poetry Month! Your preschooler has likely learned silly poetry and nursery rhymes in their class this year. These catchy songs are fun and a great way to teach your kiddos about poetry. Your children might not even realize that these classic nursery rhymes are poetry. This month is the time to teach your kids all about poetry!<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you have rhythm?<\/span><\/h4>\n

Ask your preschooler what nursery rhymes they know and help them understand how poetry works. Write out the words to these nursery rhymes in fun, bold markers and paints. Highlight or point out each word that rhymes; this is a great way to visually show and teach your kids what types of words sound similar. You can also incorporate new songs that they haven\u2019t heard before in this activity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Daily Jams<\/span><\/h4>\n

Poetry does not have to be in nursery rhyme form. You and your kiddo can make up your own poetry! Think of a typical activity that you and your child do every day like brushing their teeth. Before it\u2019s time to brush those little teeth, you and your child can sing the special rhyme that you made up together. This will make brushing their teeth more fun and will also be an educational experience. It\u2019s a win-win! Let\u2019s see how many rhymes that you can create throughout the month!<\/span><\/p>\n

Poetry Party<\/span><\/h4>\n

Invite a few of your preschooler\u2019s friends over and host a poetry party. Have each child make up their own poem and draw a picture to go with it. After every child is finished with their artwork, have each kiddo present their poem to the group. This will be a fun and silly way to teach your preschooler and their friends about the art of poetry. Poetry can be a party!<\/span><\/p>\n
