Grab your binoculars (the ones you and your preschooler made from toilet paper rolls, of course) and get ready for an animal adventure! Visiting Africa on a safari would be amazing; but if you cannot take a real trip to Africa, you can create your own adventure at home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Animal Hunt<\/span><\/h4>\n

Print out pictures of African animals. For added stability, glue them to cardstock or construction paper. In your yard, hide pictures of the animals. As you place the animals, think about where they may actually be found. Then discuss with your preschooler as they are searching. Giraffes eat leaves high in the tree, so they will probably be found near trees. Some animals look for shade, others cool down in the water or roll in the mud, and lions may be found in a high place like the top of a rock pile. Have your child grab their binoculars and have fun searching!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Read a Book<\/span><\/h4>\n

After your preschooler has found all of the safari animals, it is time for a good book. \u201c<\/span>Giraffes Can\u2019t Dance\u201d<\/span><\/i> by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees is a cute story with a great message about Gerald the giraffe who is teased for his awful dancing skills. Warning: You and your preschooler may need to practice your dance moves after reading this book!<\/span><\/p>\n

Eat a Snack<\/span><\/h4>\n

All of that movement will most likely make your preschooler hungry for a snack. These giraffe cookies from <\/span>The Devilish Dish<\/span><\/a> require a few store-bought ingredients, but there is no baking. They come together quickly and taste delicious!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Make Art<\/span><\/h4>\n

Once you have been on safari, read a book, and had a snack, it is time to make some safari artwork. Handprint animals are a little messy, but a lot of fun. For most animals, you can paint the child\u2019s hand the main color of the animal (yellow for lions, gray for elephants, etc.). Typically, the handprint will be turned upside down and the thumb becomes the head. Then details like eyes, hair, horns, or tails can be added along with other colors after the print dries. Check out Pinterest or do a Google image search for some handprint art inspiration. Where will you go next?<\/span><\/p>\n
