Creative Lunch Ideas for Preschoolers

Creative Lunches at Kids 'R' Kids Highland Glen, preschool, daycare, learning academy

Preschoolers can be picky eaters. If they made their own lunch, they might never get the nutrients their growing bodies need. But we have a superpower to help our little ones eat: imagination. So, let’s put our imagination to use with some creative lunch ideas for preschoolers.

Spin It

Put a spin on the traditional sandwich and make a roll-up for your child. They can hold the roll-up easily with one hand and often with less mess. You can also try sneaking thinly sliced veggies into the roll up. Vary the roll up by using PB&J or making a roll-up quesadilla.

Create a pancake sandwich. Use the pancake as the bread (flavored pancakes work well for this). Spread the pancake with a nut butter or cream cheese and then put in a thin banana or apple slice or some fresh berries.

While crescent wrapped hot dogs are a classic, try using leftover meat loaf in a crescent roll to give your child a unique take on the piggy in the blanket. Try this with different leftover meats and you might find a new food your preschooler will eat. Add something for them to dip it in before eating.

Stick It

When making kabobs for preschoolers, avoid sharp picks. Instead, punch the hole using a kabob sick or an ice pick and then replace it with a pretzel or a straw. For a dessert kabob, stick a Twizzlers in the middle after creating a hole with a sharp object. Foods on a stick are always fun to eat.

Color Coordinate It

Try sending your child an all green lunch: snap peas, sandwich roll up with spinach tortilla, drop some food coloring into a pan of rice crispies, or make some mac and cheese with basil pesto.

Add green Jell-O for dessert. Get a green juice box and a green fork for them too! What a treat when they open their lunch box and it’s all green. This works exceptionally well when the whole meal is your child’s favorite color.

Change the color, put it on a stick, or take a turn on an old classic, the options are adventurously yours.
