Each has particular fears in life, which can be stressful to all. Preschooler\u2019s fears can often stem from overly-active imaginations (which thankfully will one day balance out).\u00a0 Here are some common fears that your preschooler may have and some strategies on how to deal with the fears.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Common Fears<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any preschooler could technically fear anything at any given time. As mentioned above, a preschooler\u2019s imagination can be a bit too active at times, causing a wide variety of \u201cwhat-ifs\u201d in your child\u2019s mind. Common fears may be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storms<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dogs (or a variety of animals)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The dark<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monsters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being in front of a big group (or on stage)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unknown<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strategies to Help<\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Books like \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Superheroes Don\u2019t Get Scared\u2026or Do They?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (Zack Bush and Laurie Friedman) and \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The I\u2019m Not Scared Book<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (Todd Parr) help children to see that fears are okay and normal and that there are ways to work through their fears.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teach your preschooler to come to you when they experience fears. A preschooler will find relief that they can trust you with their fears.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Encourage discussion with your preschooler to come up with specific ways to help in their fear. For example, if your preschooler is afraid of dogs, see if your child would be willing to read a book about dogs and learn how to practice safety around the dogs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use child-friendly (and matter-of-fact) phrases when your child is in the middle of fear. For example, you could say, \u201cMomma (or daddy, grandma, fill-in-the-blank) would never let a monster enter this house! I love you too much to let a monster go under your bed!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember that your preschooler will mature in their thinking as they age. Their imaginations will not always get the best of them.
