Technology is a great way for your preschooler to learn on an interactive level. However, as with anything, too much of it can be bad. With our society so involved with technology, it can feel like an uphill battle trying to balance your child\u2019s technology use. However, with some structure and a balance of carefully chosen alternative activities, your child will have no problem putting down their tablet or device.<\/span><\/p>\n

Set limits<\/b><\/h3>\n

First off, it\u2019s important to have set times every day where technology is not allowed. All the devices should be turned off or put in a specific place. If your child spends most of his free time enjoying TV, set timers on the TV where after a certain amount of minutes, it shuts off automatically.<\/span><\/p>\n

Do it as a family<\/b><\/h3>\n

Doing this as a family is the best way to instill these rules. Use this time to spend together as a family. One of the most important things you can do after setting limitations to your child\u2019s technology use is to spend the time they\u2019re not using the tablet or watching TV doing something just as fun. Because much of technology use is sedentary, make efforts to balance this time out with exercise and time outdoors. Take advantage of the technology-free time to do things that are not possible with a tablet or TV on. Play a game, read a book, or bake something in the kitchen.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you stick with the guidelines you set forth for your house\u2019s technology use, before you know it your child will be willingly putting the tablet down to spend time outdoors doing something just as fun.<\/span><\/p>\n
