Why Grandparents are Important for Preschoolers

Why Grandparents are Important for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Greenwood, preschool, daycare, childcare

Grandparents play an important role in the growth and development in the life of a preschooler. There are many special elements a grandparent can provide in ways no one else can. Their contribution will be a delightful extension of what the parents provide.

A Special Love

A Grandparent’s unconditional love is an irreplaceable balm in a preschooler’s life. Grandparents love grandchildren with fierceness often unmatched outside of the parents. It is understood that grandparents are allowed to be more relaxed on the rules and “spoil” grandchildren. This understanding brings a bond between grandparents and grandchildren earning the grandparents a position of trust a preschooler can rest in.

A Worthy Investment

Grandparents are important for preschoolers as many have a special enthusiasm to invest in them. Whether it is a leisurely walk, playing on the floor, spending time baking, reading, or telling stories, the investment of grandparents help a preschooler learn and grow. Since they do not bear the parent’s responsibility of discipline, they are able to invest deeply in solely positive activities.

An Admirable Influence

According to Professor Ann Buchanan, a preschooler’s strong relationship with Grandparents may help “protect against developmental problems and boost a child’s cognitive and social abilities.” Studies have proven that having actively-involved grandparents fosters problem solving, calmness, confidence, and stability. While these skills are also taught at home and preschool, it seems the grandparent contribution provides a unique boost.

A Wealth of Knowledge and Experience

Grandparents are important for preschoolers as they educate and instruct. Grandparents have skills they have mastered through years of living, and many grandparents enjoy sharing these skills with their beloved preschoolers. Nothing is more fun than helping grandparents mow, build, bake, sew, etc.!

Grandparents are important keys to a preschooler’s growth and development. Through an active investment, preschoolers are given an even stronger foundation that will equip them with tools to flourish through the teenage and adult years. Though it is hard to quantify the full impact of the importance of grandparents, it is indisputably proven to be far-reaching.

“What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies.”

—Rudy Giuliani
