Homemade Instruments for Preschoolers

Homemade Instruments for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Greatwood, preschool, daycare, childcare

Looking back to your school days, you may or may not have liked music class! Thankfully, in preschool, music is designed to be a positive learning tool. Your child will most certainly receive opportunities to be around music in the childcare setting.

Even better, though, music can be positively incorporated at home! There are studies that show positive effects from a parent and child participating in something musical together.  Music can create a bonding experience between you and your preschooler!

Thankfully, you do not even have to be musically talented to pull off musically-based fun times with your child! There are simple and fun homemade project ideas that you can do with your preschooler from the comfort of your own home.

A Simple Kitchen “Treasure” Hunt

Encourage your child to look through the kitchen cabinets and drawers for something to turn into a drum and drumstick, for example. (Your child can make any instrument, though.)  Make sure your child makes something for you to play, too! When all of the desired participants have an instrument, your preschooler can lead the group around your living space for their own version of a music parade.

An Inexpensive Music-Maker Project

It is said that the best things in life are free! There is no need to run to the store for this homemade project. Proactively save a milk jug and lid. Once it is rinsed (and dried), have your preschooler fill the jug with something that will create noise (dried rice, paperclips, etc.). Understandably, you may not want it too loud. You could add in cotton balls with some of the other fillers.

You can be creative and fun while just using simple things from around your house. Though these ideas are simple, the time spent with your preschooler will be priceless. It is memorable to incorporate homemade musical instruments with your child, especially when it can take place where your child is most comfortable.
