Secrets a Preschool Teacher Wants You to Know

Preschool Teachers at Kids 'R' Kids Greatwood, preschool, daycare, learning academy

Preschool is hard work. It is hard for your child, and sometimes it is harder for the teacher. Consider these four things when you engage your child’s teacher.

She might be in pain

Preschool teachers spend much of their day bending over, sitting on the floor, or looking downward. Regardless of physical shape, these actions can wear on a body after a few hours. The mental exhaustion of aiding, teaching, and protecting a group of children all day is overwhelming. Physically and mentally, your child’s teacher is probably very tired by the end of the school day.

She models more than teaches

Preschool is about more than academics. Your child is learning how to engage with peers and adults. They are learning how to handle themselves in the world by watching this teacher. They are learning to be kind, to wash their hands, and to be responsible.

she needs your help

A child only retains a minimal number of things taught in the classroom without reinforcement at home. Your role in their education is essential. Try to discover what your child is learning by asking the teacher about the day or reading the material they send home through newsletters and emails. When you find that your child is struggling with something, practice it at home with enthusiasm and encouragement. If your child loses a star for not picking up the blocks at school, don’t just tell him to do better tomorrow. Instead, have him intentionally practice picking up things at home. This shows your child that school is important, that you respect the teacher, and that you value what he/she is learning.

she really needs your help

The way you bring your child to school or talk about school leaves an indelible mark on your little one. If you are rushed and frazzled during each morning drop off, your child will start the day with anxiety. If you tend to vent about the pickup procedures or cost of the school, your child will associate that negative feeling with the school.

We all have off days, teachers included. But together, the preschool years can be terrific.
