Celebrating Mother’s Day with Preschoolers

It’s time to recognize and celebrate the mothers and mother-figures in our preschoolers’ lives, and there are lots of ways to include little ones in this special day! It may also be a good idea to check with your partner or the Mom in your life to see if she might like a little private time to herself in addition to these activities.

Get in the kitchen!

Breakfast in bed is a classic Mother’s Day tradition to give Mom the morning off from cooking and preparing breakfast for everyone. Little ones can help assemble the perfect breakfast in bed tray by cracking and stirring eggs, being on watch for the toaster to pop, making the fruit look pretty on the plate, etc.  Let them draw and color cards to put on the tray or go outside and find flowers to put in a vase. If early church service or brunch is on the agenda, pack a picnic dinner for a nearby park or the living room floor together!

Get outside!

If the weather is nice, as it tends to be on this early spring holiday, take the whole family outdoors and go for a long, leisurely walk.  This is also a good activity to get them out of the house if Mom needs a Mother’s Day nap! Have your preschoolers on the lookout for wildflowers, beautiful rocks, or other pretty things in nature that they can collect for Mom.

Special cuddle time

This will always make Mom feel loved and special. Make sure each child gets some one-on-one time with Mom for stories, cuddles, or even a short adventure outside the home.

No matter what you choose to do, the Mom in your life will feel so special just being loved thoughtfully and intentionally by her preschoolers and her family!
