How to Have a Stress-Free Holiday

How to Have a Stress-Free Holiday

The holidays can be a joyous and merry time for preschoolers, but a stressful time for their parents. It’s always important to find ways to keep yourself and your child happy during breaks from preschool. As a parent, you can tune down a lot of unneeded stress by planning ahead and following just a few quick steps.

Start Shopping Early

Sure, it seems like a given, but don’t shirk the conversation with your child about what they want for holiday gifts and be sure to start looking early. Great sales happen early in the holiday season, and the latest fad child’s toy may go out of stock quickly, especially as we get down to the wire. No one wants to be the parent making compromises on their child’s gifts, so take a moment to approach the shopping with as little stress as possible.

Find a New Holiday Tradition

When a preschooler is home for the holidays, they can quickly get cabin fever…which causes a lot of undue stress for parents. Avoid this by looking for ways to get the family out of the house and exploring new family traditions. Activities can be as cliché as visiting Santa or as wild as finding a unique family-friendly holiday shindig in your community. Be sure to check local community calendars well in advance to see what kind of activities are coming up!

Arts and Crafts

Alas, sometimes the weather or time constraints will keep the family indoors. In that case, never fear! The internet has a plethora of options for low-cost, low-maintenance arts and crafts you can do with your child to keep the boredom at bay. Help them create holiday decorations to bring some needed spirit to the home, or cut some costs on gifts for loved ones by helping your preschooler create handmade gifts for family members. Traditional holiday crafting favorites you should look into include salt dough ornaments, handmade cards and finger-painted Christmas trees!
