Your preschooler will most likely answer with a short response such as “good” or “bad.” Encourage your little one to expand their thoughts by asking questions that allow them to respond with more than just a simple word. Try asking these questions to engage in more conversation with your child!

“What was something you learned today that you thought was super cool?”

Asking questions that focus on a particular topic encourages your preschooler to respond with a longer answer. For example, your child may reply to this sentence by saying that they really enjoyed their science class because they played with slime. This is the perfect time to ask follow-up questions. Try asking them questions such as why they enjoyed that particular activity. You are accustomed to your child constantly asking “why”–now it’s your turn!

“How were you able to help someone today?”

This question makes your child think of ways that they helped or could have helped their peers. Asking questions like the above help remind your child that helping others should be an important and fun part of their day! You could also follow-up by asking how the person who was helped felt and how that made your preschooler feel. Your child most likely felt happy, meaning that you can encourage them to help their peers!

“What made you smile today?”

Your child’s well-being is your number one priority as a parent, so it makes perfect sense that you want to know what makes them show off that cute smile. Your kiddo may respond and say that a friend made them smile. This is a great opportunity for you to ask more about this friend, and possibly schedule playdates with them in the future.

Ask these questions and, hopefully, you will no longer hear “fine” again!

Want to learn more about Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Duluth located in Duluth, Georgia?
