It may seem like we are still recovering from the winter holidays and here comes another one in February! While we focused a lot on giving and cultural activities around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, Valentine\u2019s Day is all about love. It can also still be about learning! Try some of these sweet activities with your sweet preschooler to keep them actively learning and engaged as they get ready for another candy-filled holiday of sugary treats. <\/span><\/p>\n

Math <\/b><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/b>Little ones learning to count will have great fun separating out candy hearts by color and counting how many there are of each. You may also see how many they can sneak away and eat! Adding and subtracting these treats can be a fun and delicious way to sneak in some counting and color identification skills into Valentine\u2019s Day activities. <\/span><\/p>\n

Literacy <\/b><\/h4>\n

Older preschoolers may be learning how to write, and this is a perfect opportunity to practice writing \u201cI Love ____\u201d onto a paper heart and fill in the blank with the names of their family members and friends. Make a Love Book by stapling or tying these hearts together with yarn, and give to your child as a reminder of the love in their life. <\/span><\/p>\n

Art <\/b><\/h4>\n

Handmade Valentine\u2019s Cards are a perfect way to entertain your preschooler on a chilly February day while also encouraging creativity and improving on some fine motor skills (like cutting and gluing). Get out all of your construction paper, glitter, buttons, ribbon, paper plates, anything you have on hand that\u2019s crafty, and help your child make completely original and creative Valentines to give away. <\/span><\/p>\n

Not only are these activities great for learning, but they\u2019re perfect to stop and talk about all the people we love and who love us as we prepare for this sweet holiday! <\/span><\/p>\n
