Like many families, you may be wondering how summer break came to an end so quickly.\u00a0 You may feel as if school just ended yesterday, so how could it be time to return already.\u00a0 If you or your preschooler are feeling the back-to-school blues, there are some ways to lessen the impact of those pesky blues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Special Time<\/span><\/h4>\n

Take a day to spend with your special preschooler. Choose an outing which is extra special that your little one has been wanting to do for awhile, or plan a day filled with all of your preschooler\u2019s favorite activities. The special day doesn\u2019t need to break the bank or be over the top extravagant. As long as you make memories and help your preschooler feel extra special, you have accomplished your mission.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Special Purchase<\/span><\/h4>\n

A little retail therapy is sure to bust some of those back-to-school blues for you and your preschooler. Take your preschoolers on a shopping spree to pick out a special new item for the new\u00a0 school year. Set the new item aside to build the excitement of using it the first day of school!<\/span><\/p>\n

Be Excited<\/span><\/h4>\n

Children feed off the energy of the adults around them and mimic our emotions. If parents are anxious and showing sadness about the end of summer break, chances are their little ones will feel those same feelings. Try to avoid showing your preschooler any negative emotions you are experiencing about the return of school. Instead, talk about all the exciting things a new school year brings (i.e. new friends, fun activities at school, recess, etc.).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Routine<\/span><\/h4>\n

The return of the school year means an early bedtime and wake time for a lot of families. An earlier bedtime can be a real bummer for a preschooler. To help soften this transition, ease into an early bedtime by moving your preschooler\u2019s bedtime fifteen minutes earlier every couple nights until the desired bedtime is reached. It is important to keep the bedtime routine the same to help signal to your preschooler\u2019s body that it is time to sleep.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All in all, with a little planning, your preschooler will be ready to go on the first day of school!<\/span><\/p>\n
