Playing an instrument requires your preschooler to control his movements to play the proper notes and beats.\u00a0 Listening to music aids in auditory skills.\u00a0 Many songs geared towards preschoolers incorporate movements that are to be followed throughout the song.\u00a0 This can help improve listening skills and focus, because the child needs to pay attention and listen to instructions as he moves with the music.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spatial Awareness<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dancing with music allows children to become aware of their body in relation to the space around them (spatial awareness).\u00a0 As mentioned above, many songs for young children include directions on what movements to complete, and these movements change throughout the song.\u00a0 Your preschooler will learn where her body is in relationship to others around her when moving with the music and following the directions in the song.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cognitive Skills<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Music can aid in developing cognitive skills, as well. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/blog\/the-athletes-way\/201311\/musical-training-optimizes-brain-function\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> article from Psychology Today explains how music increases brain function.\u00a0 It states music instruction prior to age seven can help build and strengthen communication between different parts of the brain, which your preschooler will benefit from for a lifetime.\u00a0 In addition to brain development, music is helpful in memorization.\u00a0 Putting something to music or at least a rhythm helps our brains remember it easier.\u00a0 For example, how many of us sing the alphabet song in our heads when tasked with alphabetizing words?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Grab some rhythm sticks (paint stirrers or a couple wooden spoons work great) or an empty box to use as a drum and invite your little one to keep a beat while listening to some music.\u00a0 She\u2019ll have fun while building lots of new skills!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you enjoyed this blog, please take a look at our school\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/champions\/blog\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">blog page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
