Children’s Books for Independence Day

Children’s Books for Independence Day at Kids 'R' Kids Bella Terra, preschool, daycare, childcare

One of the highlights of summertime is the magnificent fireworks displays and tasty barbecues on the Fourth of July.  Sparklers and hot dogs almost go hand in hand, but does your preschooler know why we celebrate this red, white, and blue holiday?  Here is a list of books that are a mixture of fun and educational about the summer holiday.

What is America, by Michelle Medlock Adams

This book takes readers through different symbols of America, such as the flag and various monuments, but ultimately reveals that America is about freedom and being able to live your dreams.

God Bless Our Country  by Mike Berenstain

This book tells us how the beloved Berenstain Bear family celebrates the 4th of July with their neighbors.  Brother and Sister Bear learn about the blessings of having a free country.

The Night Before the Fourth of July  by Natasha Wing

In this story we follow a family as they prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July at a parade, a barbecue, fireworks and more.

Hello, America!  by Martha Zschock

This story follows an eagle parent and child as they explore the beauty and history of America together.  From visiting historic places to visiting historical figures, they have a lot to teach us about our great country!

O, Say can You See? America’s Symbols, Landmarks, and Important Words  by Sheila Keenan

This is a fun and informative picture book that explains twenty of America’s interesting objects, important places, and inspiring words to children.

Corduroy’s 4th of July  by Don Freeman

One of our favorite, lovable bears and his friends celebrate this patriotic holiday.  Join Corduroy and his friends while they play in the water, have a picnic, put on a parade, and much more!

Finally, if you will be spending time traveling for the holiday, consider buying a 4th of July themed activity book to keep your preschooler occupied and learning as you pass the miles away.
