Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers

Hot Days, Cool Treats for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Bella Terra, preschool, daycare, childcare

As the temperature heats up outside, preschoolers need treats to cool down! Here are three simple, healthy recipes for cool treats that do not require special ingredients or fancy kitchen gadgets. You probably have some of these ingredients at home already.

Yogurt Bites

This treat really only requires one ingredient: yogurt. The kind of yogurt is up to you. For a healthier option, Greek yogurt has more protein. Plain yogurt will work, but buying a few fruity flavors like strawberry or mango will make for some brighter colors and more flavor.  Pour the yogurt into a large freezer bag, snip the corner and pipe 1/2-inch circles onto a wax paper lined baking sheet. Freeze the yogurt rounds, then peel them off the wax paper and store in a container in the freezer until you are ready to serve them. Add sprinkles or fruit pieces for some extra pizazz.

Fruit Cones

This simple and fun treat will have your preschoolers begging for fruit! To make these, you need three ingredients: small cake or waffle cones, frozen mixed berries, and whipped cream. Instead of using ice cream, scoop frozen mixed berries (or whatever type of frozen fruit your preschooler prefers) directly into the cones, and then top with some whipped cream. It is that easy! Your preschooler can enjoy a cool treat with a lot less sugar than a traditional ice cream cone.

Watermelon Slushies

Summer is the peak season for watermelon, and nothing says summer like lemonade. Combine those two ingredients in this tasty summer treat. First, cut the watermelon into chunks. Now, for the fun part! Grab a few small zip top bags, and put a dozen or so cubes of watermelon in each bag. Then, let your preschooler squish up the chunks. This can get a little messy, but it is so much fun! Next, add about 1/2 cup of lemonade to the bag. Finally, put the bags in the freezer for 2-3 hours to make a slushie consistency. Now, this treat could certainly be made in the blender. Just freeze the watermelon chunks after cutting them. When you are ready, add the frozen watermelon and lemonade in a blender.

Try these cool treats that are easy enough for your preschooler to make them!
