Next week is \u201cActs of Kindness Week\u201d here at Kids \u2018R\u2019 Kids Avalon Park. We\u2019ll be putting kindness into action with the children at our Childcare Center leading up to the Valentine\u2019s Day Party on Friday, February 14th.<\/p>\n

Caring for others is a valuable quality that we all hope our\u00a0children have. But being kind isn\u2019t second\u00a0nature. Children are naturally\u00a0blunt, and laser-focused on their own needs and wants. They need a\u00a0guiding hand\u00a0to help them learn to be generous and considerate of others\u2019 feelings.<\/p>\n

\"\"Teaching Kindness Is As Important As Reading To Them<\/h2>\n

Teaching your kids kindness is as important as reading to\u00a0them. It improves their mental health, physical\u00a0health, and social connections.<\/p>\n

Do you know that researchers have discovered that kindness\u00a0doesn\u2019t just make the recipient feel good, it\u00a0makes you feel good too? When you\u00a0care for others, it makes you feel stronger and more energetic. It\u00a0improves\u00a0your immune system and cardiovascular system. It even stimulates serotonin\u00a0production in\u00a0your body which plays a role in reducing stress and anxiety.\u00a0These positive benefits are especially\u00a0meaningful for children.<\/p>\n

The number of kids being diagnosed with anxiety and\u00a0depression has been increasing rapidly over the\u00a0last few years. Teaching\u00a0children to practice kindness decreases their risk of suffering from anxiety,\u00a0depression and suicidal thoughts. Studies have found that teens who are\u00a0motivated by a desire to help\u00a0others are more active, engaged and involved than\u00a0their peers.<\/p>\n

Being kind doesn\u2019t only improve children\u2019s mental health,\u00a0it\u00a0also\u00a0improves their relationships with their\u00a0peers. Children who are\u00a0considerate of others and do acts of kindness are more included by their peers\u00a0and have more friends. They are less likely to be bullied or to bully others.<\/p>\n

\"\"Model Kindness At Home<\/h2>\n

You can help your children cultivate kindness by modeling it\u00a0at home. Children are natural imitators.\u00a0When they see you showing respect to\u00a0others and lending a helping hand, it motivates them to do the\u00a0same. Bringing\u00a0attention to others’ acts of kindness is another way to help your children\u00a0develop this\u00a0virtue. Pointing out when people show kindness reinforces the\u00a0value of caring for others. Practicing\u00a0kindness with your children helps them\u00a0to make it a habit.\u00a0KidsActivities.net\u00a0has\u00a0a list of 28 Random Acts\u00a0of Kindness that you can do with your children.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Ritchie Davidson, practicing kindness is\u00a0\u201ckind of like weight training, we found that\u00a0people can build up their\u00a0compassion \u2018muscle\u2019 and respond to others\u2019 suffering with care and a desire to\u00a0help.\u201d The more time you spend practicing kindness with your children, the\u00a0stronger that muscle will\u00a0grow.<\/p>\n

We strive to cultivate the virtue of kindness throughout the\u00a0year. Focusing on it during \u201cActs of Kindness\u00a0Week\u201d at Kids \u2018R\u2019 Kids Avalon\u00a0Park emphasizes the importance of making it a habit. The benefits the\u00a0children\u00a0feel from being kind throughout the week make the Valentine\u2019s Day celebration\u00a0even more\u00a0enjoyable.<\/p>\n
