Parents are their children\u2019s first, and most important, teacher. When mom and dad are involved with their preschooler\u2019s school<\/a>, the child will perform better and enjoy school more. Research has shown that active parent involvement in their children\u2019s school has more effect on academic success than how much money a family makes or how much education the parents have.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of ways that parents can support their preschooler\u2019s learning throughout the school year and even at home after school hours. Here are 7 ideas to help you get started. Tip #1 – Meet Your Child\u2019s Teacher<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your preschooler\u2019s teacher will be your biggest ally. As soon as the school year starts, make an effort to meet with your preschooler\u2019s teacher. Let them know that you are excited to work together with them to keep your child on track. Tip #2 – Get to Know The Administration, Too. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Teachers aren\u2019t the only people at your child\u2019s school who are there to help. Administrators, special education staff, and other personnel are there to help your child learn, grow socially & emotionally, and navigate a new educational experience.<\/p>\n

Tip #3 – Set Up Parent-Teacher Conferences Throughout the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Check in on your preschooler\u2019s progress throughout the school year by attending a parent-teach conference. Teachers are glad to discuss how your child is progressing with learning activities and what can be done at home to improve or strengthen important skills. If you have a question or concern that cannot wait until a scheduled conference, shoot your child\u2019s teacher an email or send in a note to school.<\/p>\n

Tip #4 – Find Out if Your Child Needs Extra Help<\/strong><\/p>\n

Check in with your child\u2019s teacher periodically to find out how well they are doing in class compared to their peers. If your preschooler is having trouble keeping up, find out if your child could use some extra help.<\/p>\n

Tip #6 – Continue Learning at Home<\/strong><\/p>\n

Learning doesn\u2019t have to stop when your child leaves the confines of the classroom walls. Practicing new skills at home and staying engaged in your child\u2019s early learning will support school readiness and future academic success. Have your preschooler continue writing and reading at home in a fun, unstructured environment for the best success.
